- Enter corrections into the Microsoft Word manuscript, using the Track Changes tool
- Check for spelling errors
- Check for subject-verb disagreement
- Look for incorrect word usage
- Check punctuation
- Check for mislabeling
- Verify consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numbers and capitalization
- Mark run-on sentences, awkward sentence construction, passive voice, vagueness
- Ensure that abbreviations/acronyms are spelled out the first time
